Garware choppers barred from racecourse

Mumbai: Helicopters belonging to Garware Aviation cannot land or take off from Mahalaxmi racecourse, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) has ruled. The move comes two days after after a Garware chopper made an illegal landing on the racecourse grounds leading to the death of a mare.
Garware Aviation won't be allowed to use our helipad henceforth," Behram Engineer of RWITC told TOI on Wednesday. "We have written a very stern letter to them, bringing the pilot's action to their notice and informing them about the ban." However, he said he did not know who the occupants of the helicopter were or the pilot's name.
Honorary secretary of the Amateur Riders' Club (ARC) Adil Gandhy said the pilot had violated air safety norms on four counts and his actions could have led to a bigger tragedy involving not just horses but humans too.
