New Delhi: Common User Terminal Equipment (CUTE) will now be put up at 13 non-metro airports across the country to take care of congestion problems at the airport.
But what is CUTE? Simply put, it's an automated check in counter where passengers can check-in, get boarding passes as well as baggage tags.
But unlike dedicated airline counters, which are redundant during off-peak hours, these can be shared across airlines meaning better utilization.
The manufacturers say banking on non-metros gives them a shot at faster growth ...
Says CEO, SITA, Francesco Violante, “It's a growing country, air traffic is increasing and therefore this system.”
But with most airports struggling with available space, delayed flights and congestion during the peak hours, even the AAI admits that CUTE can at best be an interim arrangement.
