Island Air keen to operate more flights from India

Mumbai: Maldives-based Island Air is keen to expand operations in India. Having started daily flights from Thiruvananthapuram to Male on January 25, 2008, the airline is now looking to commence operations from Kochi, Chennai and Kolkata by early 2009.
Commenting on the airline's plans for the India market, Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem, MD, Island Air, said, "Besides us, only Air India operates daily services from India to Maldives. In such as scenario, there is a need to start more services, for which we are considering Kochi, Chennai and Kolkata. And, as far as the Thiruvananthapuram-Male service is concerned, we are working on a plan to commence twice daily flights on the route by mid-2008." Incidentally, the airline claims a load factor of 95 per cent, of which 65 per cent is attributed to medical tourists.
