Nagpur: The Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (Mihan) seems to have run into good times after US aircraft manufacturer Boeing decided to set up a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) base here.
Now one more company Jet Airways has evinced interest to set-up its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility here soon. Talking to TOI, general manager of Maharashtra Airport Development Company, Ramesh Yaul said, "Jet Airways has approached us for setting up MRO at Nagpur. Their requirement is of 15 to 20 acre land. However, the company has not yet submitted a final proposal," he added.
Sources said Jet Airways has shortlisted five cities -- Nagpur, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai -- for its MRO facility. However, as per a senior official Jet is likely to prefer Nagpur due to its central location and the facilities being provided by Mihan. Jet wants to build the MRO facility by mid-2009.
Jet Airways will become fourth major company proposing to set up MRO. The first three being US-based Boeing, Mumbai-based Max Aerospace and New York-based Bravia Inc.
