Now, Deccan Air tickets to be sold at post offices

Mumbai: In its effort to diversify further into the retail marketing segment, the department of post (DoP) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Deccan Aviation Ltd (DAL), one of the leading private helicopter and airplane chartering service in India, for sale of the airline’s tickets.
The chief post master general, Maharashtra circle MP Rajan told FE on Tuesday, “It is for the first time that the airline industry is cashing in on the widespread network and reach of the postal department which extends to almost every village and town in the country. The postal department and DAL have yet to identify the post offices in the Maharashtra circle. However, the airline has already launched its pilot project with the Karnataka circle.
DAL is selling tickets in Karnataka circle from 500 post offices with Internet access.”
Rajan said that the postal department will serve as a travel agent, which will be entitled to earn a 5% commission on the tickets, the carrier pays to its agents.
