'There was no intelligence alert on ketamine'

Coimbatore: "There was no intelligence alert," was the refrain from the customs and private airlines authorities a day after the seizure of 27kg of ketamine from a person bound for Kuala Lumpur at Coimbatore airport on Thursday.
G Sreeharsha, Additional Commissioner, Coimbatore Customs, and incharge of the airport customs noted that the incoming baggage both checked-in and hand baggages are screened by customs only.
"Only the respective airlines screen the departure baggage." SilkAir's Coimbatore Manager L Ravindran said, "Nobody from the intelligence had alerted us. But we cooperated by bringing the aircraft back."
"All powders look alike. As long as there is no security threat and the item is not dangerous to aircraft and passengers, we don't stop them," he added.
