Airport to block sun, save power

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad’s international terminal will be the first in the country to be endowed with a building management system (BMS), much on the lines of Singapore’s Changi airport. The system will control passage of sufficient sunlight through the main building, thereby cutting down heavily on electricity bills.
The terminal will have two artificially-created water bodies with palm trees and fountains. This will ensure that normal temperature are maintained within the airport premises. A senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) project officer told TOI, "The transparent roof of the airport will have automatic adjustable shades that will control passage of sunlight into the airport premises. Even the air-conditioning system will be temperature sensitive and will adjust to the existing temperature."
During night hours the special motion sensors installed at several locations in the airport will control the intensity of the lights depending on the number of passengers present in a particular portion of the airport. The lighting system in the BMS is prioritized according to security sensitive issues in the airport.
