The airport has been operational since June 1999 and the 3,400-metre-long bituminous runway need re-carpeting as per the standards set down by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
An official press release said on Monday that CIAL proposes to close down aircraft operations on the runway between November 2008 and May 2009, from 10 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. every day (local time) to handover the runway for the re-carpeting work to the consultants and the contractors and once the day’s work is over, the runway would be open for operations after 8.00 p.m. to 10.00 a.m. the next day.
The re-carpeting work in the runway will start from one end of the runway and will progress to the other end in a continuous and phased manner.
