Go easier on passengers' pockets: Centre

New Delhi: As a Bill on the aviation regulator is pending in Parliament the Centre, which intervened to take a call on the quantum of exorbitant user development fee (UDF), asked Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Hyderabad International Airport Limited (HIAL) to waive it for departing domestic passengers while approving a levy of Rs 1000 as ad-hoc UDF on international departing passengers.
"For the Hyderabad airport, the government has approved a levy of Rs 1,000 as the ad-hoc UDF on international departing passengers. The promoters of the Bangalore airport have proposed a UDF of Rs 675 and Rs 995 on departing domestic and international passengers respectively.
"The proposal is under examination and the company managing the new airport has been advised that it could levy an ad-hoc UDF on departing international passengers only, and not on domestic passengers. Once the final audited project cost is received from BIAL, the government will fix the UDF to be charged," Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said.
