Jammu: Panic gripped Jammu airport after a ministers Gun went off accidently .No one was injured in the incident however Police and the airport authorities have ordered a high level probe.
The firing incident took place when the luggage of Javaid Mustafa Mir, Minister of State for rural development, was going through security check at the entrance of Jammu Airport. [BB]
Reliable sources said that the Minister arrived at the airport in his official car and when he presented his luggage for security check a pistol was detected in a bag and then an alarm was sent to whole security ring of the high security zone.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had arrived minutes before, from summer capital (of state) Srinagar, in a Kingfisher flight. Security of Mr. Azad has, last month, been further tightened after intelligence reports, about the militants trying to breach the security cover of Chief Minister.
An official of the airport said on the condition of anonymity that a panic scene was created by the detection of the weapon. However, the official said, the Public relations officer escorting the Minister immediately swung in to action and informed the security officers that Minister was in the habit of carrying personal licensed weapon along with him. The sources further said that" While the airport staff was trying to understand the things PRO (of the minister) triggered the weapon and the bullet went off ".
