Mysore airport to be ready next year

Mysore: The first phase of work on upgrading the Mandakalli airport here is expected to be completed by December end. It is learnt that the facility will be made operational in the beginning of 2009.
M.N. Nagabhushan Rao, DGM, Airports Authority of India, told the office-bearers and members of various industrial associations about the project while they visited the site on Monday. The airport would be upgraded in three phases, following the Development plan prepared by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Rao explained.
Giving more details about the upgrading of the Mandakalli airport, Rao said that the 65-seat ATR 72 aircraft would operate from there after the completion of the first phase.
The improvised version of Boeing 737, with 140-seat capacity will operate after the completion of second phase, Rao said. After the 3rd phase is completed, Air Bus 310 will begin operations, he disclosed.
Expansion of the runaway and re-alignment of the Mysore-Nanjangud Road National Highway will be completed once 310 acres of land is obtained for the project, he said.
