Kochi: Operations of at least six International airlines were hit, causing inconvenience to hundreds of passengers, after functioning of the communication cable networking was affected at the International departure terminal of the airport here on Friday.
However, by afternoon the services were normalised, Airport Managing Director, S Bharath, said.
Due to sudden downpour of summer rains, a blockage occurred in the roof top of the International terminal building of the Cochin International airport at nearby Nedumbassery at around 1.15 am. This resulted in leakage of rainwater inside the terminal departure areas, which affected the functioning of the cable network. As a precautionary measure, considering the safety aspects of the airport, some communication as well as power cables were switched off, he said.
Due to this, the immigration systems in the International departure area could not be made operational.
