The new Terminal 2 Building at Pudong International Airport passed a grueling test with flying colors on Saturday.
It goes into operation on March 26 to handle passengers flying with 15 airlines. By April 29, 18 more airlines will be moved from the Terminal 1 Building to the new facility.
The two terminals are connected by three indoor, 500-meter-long corridors and free shuttle bus services every 10 minutes, between 6am and 9pm. International transfers will take about 60 to 90 minutes while domestic transfer will need 45 minutes. By following signs, travelers should be able to get to their boarding gates without any problems, the airport authority said.
As distinct from Terminal 1, the new facility has about 100,000 square meters of high-quality carpet in passenger waiting areas. Toilets, baby-care rooms and smoking areas are available on all floors of Terminal 2.
The first 15 airlines to move will be Shanghai Airlines, Air India, Alitalia, British Airways, Garuda Indonesia, Malaysia Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Philippines Airlines, Qantas Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Nepal Airlines, Transaero Airlines, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Aerosvit Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air.
