SpiceJet to spread wings in South

Chennai: Low-cost air carrier SpiceJet is set to become the first airline to fly an evening flight out of Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
Till now, the Visakhapatnam airport used to be closed to evening flights due to restricted watch hours and disinterest in operating night flights by any airline.
After receiving approval from the Navy and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for evening flights, SpiceJet is set to embark on its Vishakapatnam-Hyderabad daily return flight besides flying Delhi and Mumbai via Hyderabad starting March 30.
With the airport infrastructure upgraded over the last 8 months, the airline expects an occupancy of 70 per cent on these routes. As part of its network expansion in the South, SpiceJet is also launching a daily flight on the Kochi-Mumbai sector from March-end.
Last year, the air carrier started operations from Kochi and Coimbatore and with Vishakapatnam added to its itinerary, the Southern flights would constitute about 53 out of a total of 117 flights.
