Chennai: Air Dravida, an airlines mooted to fly within Southern India will commence its operations from July 2008. The company obtained the ‘no objection certificate' last week. The Rs 110-crore airlines company is an offshoot of Premier Tours and Travels which is into airline ticketing business.
The maiden service will be from Chennai to Madurai.
The operations will start with three jet aircraft initially and two more will be added by the end of the year.
Air Dravida will also be leasing its aircraft on demand. Each flight will have a seating capacity of 50 and it will be a complete economy class flight.
According to Sheik Dawood, the managing director of the company, the main highlight of the service will be reduction of flying time. There will be no discount on ticket charges.
