Air India Express ferries 1.8 mn passengers in FY08

Mumbai: Air India Express (AIE), the low-cost arm of national air-carrier Air India, on Monday said it carried 1.8 million passengers in the last financial year.
While AIE carried five lakh passengers during 2005-06, the year it started operations, it carried 1.8 million passengers in the fiscal ended March 31, 2008, a company release said here today.
AIE currently operates 153 flights a week between 13 Indian cities and 12 international destinations across the Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
In addition, the airline also has plans to launch flights to Kuwait from Kerala, Mangalore and Ahmedabad. It also plans to connect Dubai from Goa, Pune, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
An AIE flight between Kolkata and Dhaka is also on the cards, the release said. The airline has a fleet of 18 aircraft and plans to add another seven by 2009.
