New Delhi: CBI director Joginder Singh’s wife Suriender Kaur took an Indian Airlines flight from Mumbai for Delhi at 1.45 pm on Sunday. At the Mumbai airport, she checked in a blue suitcase and an orange bag. Noting nothing amiss with her luggage in Delhi, Kaur left the airport for her Dwarka home. But at home, when she opened her suitcase, she realised her digital camera and Apple I-pod were missing.
On close scrutiny, Kaur found that the security tape wrapped around her suitcase was missing too. The lock too had been picked, she wrote in her complaint to the police.
Theft from checked-in luggage at airports is rampant these days. Newsline had reported on March 18 how Chennai-based businessman Vijay Kumar Agarwal lost a digital camera and other valuables from his duffle. He was on a Jetlite flight from Srinagar to Delhi.
The modus operandi behind this is simple. Delhi Police officers said this crime network begins at the X-ray machine and ends with the loaders who put the luggage in the plane.
