Cartridges in baggage: US nationals detained

Bagdogra: The police in Siliguri have detained two women US nationals at the Bagdogra Airport following the recovery of 11cartridges and a magazine from their registered baggage this morning.
The mother daughter duo, identified as Mrs Monica Bond (57) and Miss Heather Bond (37), are residents of California in the USA and were scheduled to take a Deccan flight to Delhi from the Bagdogra airport at 11:45 in the morning.
According to Mr Rahul Srivastava, SP Darjeeling, the Deccan ground staff at the Bagdogra airport detected the 9 mm bullets and the magazine during an automatic scanning of a registered baggage belonging to the US nationals and alerted the police. No weapon however, was found in their possession, the SP said.
The duo was brought to the Bagdogra police investigation centre and an interrogation was initiated.
“The daughter, Miss Heather Bond claimed that the bullets and the magazine belonged to her fiancĂ© and that she carried them with her by mistake. We are trying to verify the facts through the US deputy high commission in Kolkata and other sources as well,” SP Darjeeling said.
