DGCA sets up aviation safety teams

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has formed "national aviation safety team" for tackling various challenges posed to safe flying.
There will be separate sub-committees with members from airlines, airports and other stakeholders to look after issues like operations and runway incursions.
In addition, "safety management system" is being made mandatory for all airlines from next January.
"Under this system, there will be accountability by fixing responsibility for each thing," DGCA chief Kanu Gohain said at a meet on aviation safety organized by Jet Airways.
Importantly, the DGCA announced that India will soon switch over to a performance-based safety management which will allow more planes to fly at lesser distances and enable airports to accommodate increasing traffic.
DGCA joint DG A K Chopra said India has a three-tier safety audit system — checks by airlines, third party and the regulator.
