New Delhi: The Cabinet is likely to discuss the policy for greenfield airports in its next meeting, according to sources.
The policy aims at making it easier to set up an airport in the country.
According to it, Central Government approval would not be needed for a greenfield airport project that is to be set up by Airport Authority of India or an airport company in compliance with the guidelines and is beyond 150 km of an existing civilian airport.
The policy assumes significance in light of the displeasure expressed by the developers of greenfield airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore over increased competition because of non-closure of existing airports in the two cities.
