Mumbai: India’s largest private carrier, Jet Airways, has decided upon Milan as their second international hub. The hub will be set up by end of 2009. This development was announced by Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways, at a press conference in Mumbai this afternoon. The airline had short listed Paris (France), Munich (Germany) and Milan (Italy) for its second international hub. The decision to set up in Milan was finalised after carrying out a ‘thorough study.’ “Considering the air traffic in these three cities (Paris, Munich and Milan), we choose Milan as our second hub. Today, the air traffic to Paris has increased tremendously and we did not want our hub there. Munich was out of question, since Air India has already selected it as their European hub,” stated Goyal.
The airline intends to use its second hub in Milan to build up its international operations by connecting other Indian cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata to the United States and Canada, besides adding new destinations like Munich, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Tel Aviv and Johannesburg to its network. Goyal, however, refused to divulge the incentives offered by the Milan airport authorities. “We will be creating state-of-the-art facilities for our passengers at the Milan airport,” he added.
