New Nacil chief Menon puts Thulasidas’ changes on hold

New Delhi: The merger of Air India and Indian Airlines (to form Nacil) has not only brought integration headaches but large-scale employee resentment as well.
So, making employee satisfaction one of his top priorities, Nacil’s new chairman and MD Raghu Menon has put in abeyance transfers and other promotions of about 25 employees at the deputy general manager level.
These transfers and promotions were the handiwork of outgoing CMD V Thulasidas hours before retiring from the post on March 31, and had caused widespread resentment within the national carrier.
As many as 50 people, at the executive director, general manager and DGM levels, had been either promoted or asked to assume officiating charge of certain key positions by Thulasidas. The outgoing CMD allegedly signed promotion orders for 30 people to operate as officiating general managers, another 25 officers were promoted to the DGM level and the remaining were promoted to the executive director level.
According to some Nacil employees, these orders were endorsed by Thulasidas in the last 72 hours of his tenure and some appointment/promotion letters were even “back dated” - a charge Thulasidas has denied.
Sources said that the ministry of civil aviation has taken a dim view of these promotions and has okayed a cancellation/abeyance of many such decisions taken by Thulasidas.
