NTOS woos Kingfisher to set up hub in Madrid with incentives

Mumbai: As Kingfisher is all set to commence its international operations by August this year, the airline is keenly mulling over the idea of setting up a hub in Europe. The airline is contemplating to have an exclusive hub at the Madrid Barajas International Airport in Spain. However, plans are under development. As per reports, the National Tourist Office of Spain (NTOS) approached the UB Group-promoted Kingfisher Airlines, recently to offer the latter with incentive packages to set-up their hub at Madrid in Spain.
According to the information available with TravelBiz Monitor, NTOS has offered to reduce the airport charges by 65 per cent, 45 per cent and 30 per cent for the first, second and third year, respectively, of their operations. Apart from that, it also has offered the airline with 30 per cent of parking allotment at the Madrid Barajas International Airport – rated as Europe’s third busiest airport. “These offers will be applicable only if we schedule to fly thrice a week between Indian cities and Madrid,” informed Hitesh Patel, Executive Vice-President, Kingfisher Airlines. He further pointing out that there are ‘no direct’ flights between India and Spain despite several air services bilateral agreements being signed between the two countries in November 2006.
