New Delhi: In view of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries decision taken during the 14th SAARC Summit held in New Delhi last year, of connecting all the capitals of the SAARC countries by air, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) might add Islamabad to its already existing Delhi-Lahore route. The airline is also keen on adding Chennai to its route map.
During the SAARC Summit last year, decisions were taken to not only boost intra-regional trade and investments, but also promote cultural exchanges and travel within SAARC region. Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh at that time had proposed connecting all SAARC capitals with direct flights. This also means that Indian is likely to introduce a flight on Delhi – Islamabad route.
Talking with TravelBiz Monitor, M. Khalid Alvi, Manager, Northern & Eastern India, Pakistan International Airlines said, “I believe that we will connect Islamabad to Delhi and then look at adding Chennai as a new destination to our route map.”
