Power breakdowns irk passengers at Dabolim

Panaji: Erratic power supply over the last three days has led to chaotic situation at the Dabolim international airport, with passengers having to slog out in hot and humid weather at the airport, as the air-conditioning plant has been shut off.
According to the sources at the airport, the Airport Authority of India officials are in a piquant situation and they have been forced to run their vital navigational aids and air traffic control on the diesel generator sets for the last three days.
Luckily for the authorities as well as the passengers, there have been no problems with the DG sets, as power failure could hit functioning of crucial ATC and operation of navigational aids and throw the whole system out of gear leading to flights being diverted to other destinations.
The sources attributed the problem to poor maintenance of the 33 kv feeder that supplies power to naval authorities as well as the airport. They also alleged that there was a major fault in the line supplying power from Ponda to Sancoale, which, in turn supplies power to the airport.
