Renegotiate terms for new airports: CITU

Bangalore: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) president M.K. Pandhe has asked Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel to “immediately start renegotiation” with the managements of the two privately owned greenfield airports at Bangalore and Hyderabad.
In his letter to Mr. Patel on Thursday, Mr. Pandhe pointed out that the Karnataka High Court, in its remarks made on April 16, relied on the recent report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture while observing that the State government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) should consider renegotiating the terms of agreement with the private operators.
Mr. Pandhe said the Parliamentary Committee, in a report tabled in Parliament on March 5, unanimously recommended that the existing airports in Bangalore and Hyderabad remain functional after the opening of the new airports.
