S.F.-India flight's debut hits snag

Jet Airways, India's largest domestic airline, has postponed its launch of daily service from San Francisco International Airport to India due to regulatory issues.
The airline now aims to begin service to Mumbai, India, by way of Shanghai on June 14, airline officials said. The service was originally scheduled to start May 5.
"We need to get some clearance with the Chinese," said Zainul Aljunied, vice president of the Americas for Jet Airways.
With the launch, Jet Airways will become the first Indian airline to fly from San Francisco to Mumbai, India's business center.
The airline expects to attract business travelers in the growing trade between the two countries in the high-tech, biotech and pharmaceutical sectors. Demand for leisure travel from the Bay Area's large Indian community is also expected to be robust.
he one-way introductory fare hasn't been set yet, but will be around $700-$750 to Mumbai, and $550-$600 to Shanghai, Aljunied said.
Jet Airways' competition will include United Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines, which also fly to India from SFO.
