Airline curries favour over Madras switch

A north councillor has accused an airline of making her travel to Manchester for a flight when she could have gone from Newcastle.
Joan McTigue made a phone booking to Madras, India, to see her son.But call centre staff at Airline Network booked her on a flight from Manchester.
Middlesbrough councillor Joan later discovered she could have gone from the more convenient Newcastle.
She said: “The assistant who sold me the ticket described himself as a consultant.
“Why did he not offer me the chance to fly from closer to home?
“I do not think I was given enough information about the flights beforehand.
“It was not explained what airports were available for my choice of destination.
“I complained to the company but they said I would have to pay £150 to switch.”
A spokeswoman for Airline Network said Joan did not specifically ask for a flight from Newcastle.
She said: “There is a flight from Newcastle but it is not direct and would cost more than her original booking.
