New Delhi: As airports struggle to cope with the burgeoning number of air travellers, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today said the current chaos was a sign of the growth in the sector.
"The chaos is also a representation of progress. If there was no growth then this would not happen," Patel said replying to a debate on the Carriage by Air (Amendment) Bill which was passed by the Lok Sabha today.
Earlier, there was no congestion in the country, he said. "I have been to airports all around the world and everywhere including New York and London we have to wait for hours altogether for landing," he said.
"We have to make arrangements for improving the infrastructure. We have not limited ourselves to Delhi and Mumbai but have also taken up improvement of airports in small places like Aurangabad," he said.
Former Civil Aviation Minister and BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain demanded a separate airport for Bhagalpur to which Patel said the government would consider it.
