DGCA to investigate AI nose dive incident

Mumbai: Friday’s freak incident in which an Air India (AI) aircraft nose wheel got retracted has made the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) institute an inquiry against the errant officials. DGCA said that the engineers responsible for this and earlier incidents will have to face an inquiry.
On Friday afternoon at 1.30pm, the nose wheel of AI’s Boeing 700-200ER aircraft, also called Megh Malhar, got retracted while routine checks were being carried out. One of the two engineers carrying out the check missed death by seconds as the nose landing gear inside the aircraft gave way due to hydraulic failure and the front side of the plane collapsed.
The aircraft was scheduled to operate as AI 717 Mumbai-Dubai flight was to leave at 2.45pm from Sahar terminal 2C, Mumbai airport.
