First flight from BIA to take off on May 23

Bangalore: The new Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) at Devanahalli will become operational on May 23 with an Indian aircraft all set to take off for Singapore at 00:01 hours (midnight). That would bring the curtains down on the existing HAL airport.
The maiden flight to take off from the new airport will be IC-957, an Airbus A320 with 144 passengers on board.
"It is one of the most popular flights among international passengers as it connects the west coast of America, Australia and Japan," sources said. However, landing of flights at the airport will be allowed after 8 pm on May 22.
Accordingly, all passengers taking late evening flights to Bangalore from different parts of the country will land at the new airport.
The greenfield airport was all set to be launched on March 28. However, it was postponed to May 11.
But as avionics-related infrastructure was yet to be installed and assembly elections are underway in the state, it was decided to defer the launch till the end of May.
