ILA 2008: 76,000 trade visitors during the first three days

"A positive mood in the industry was evident during the three trade visitors’ days at the International Aerospace Exhibition. Some 76,000 trade visitors were registered, roughly three per cent more than at the ILA2006 (73,000). By the half-way stage contracts and business with a value of 4.5 billion euros had been finalised, including the largest known order ever placed for civil aircraft at the ILA, which was placed with Airbus by Gulf Air (Bahrain) for 35 aircraft (15 A-320 and 20 A-330/300) worth 3.2 billion euros. Airbus sold a further 25 aircraft to the Russian airline KD Avia, with a total value of 1.1 billion euros. An Airbus A-330/200 was also handed over to the Indian airline Jet Airways and subsequently took off from the exhibition grounds at Berlin-Schönefeld on its delivery flight to Mumbai. Eurocopter signed a contract worth 24 million euros at the fair to refit six transport helicopters for the Bundeswehr and also signed a purchase agreement to take over the aircraft maintenance company Motorflug Baden-Baden. Business successes were also reported by Pilatus, which sold a PC-6 for 1.13 million euros, and Diamond Aircraft, which handed over the first DA-42 multi-purpose platform for laser scanning to Romania. In the space sector a contract with a value of 263 million euros for the construction of the EarthCare satellite was signed between the European Space Agency ESA and Astrium GmbH.
At the half-way stage the experts and professionals attending the ILA2008 were thoroughly positive in their assessments of this event: More than 90 per cent of trade visitors were satisfied with the range of items on display at the ILA. 93 per cent obtained a very good or good impression of this year’s event".
