India hogs attention at Berlin Air Show

Berlin: The prestigious Berlin Air Show opened here today with India as guest of honour and Defence Minister A K Antony wooing foreign aviation giants to "proactively" tap the booming Indian market.
The biennial International Aerospace Exhibition is featuring India as the "partner country" this time to focus attention on the enormous opportunities for trade and investments in aviation and defence sectors in the country.
"Companies that proactively search out industry partners in India will gain in our expanding market," Antony said as he inaugurated the six-day event along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"Our strategic partnership with Germany has expanded to new sectors over the years. Germany is the second important source of technology for Indian companies and our largest trading partner in the European Union," Antony said.
A strong industrial base, sophisticated research and development institutions backed by business environment is conducive to trade and growth besides providing vast business opportunities for alliances and cooperation, he said.
