NEW DELHI: "The planning of renovation work at Delhi's international terminal could have been more scientific. The Haj terminal should have been ready to handle some flights and rush when the existing terminal was being upgraded to reduce congestion there."
Caught in a spat with Planning Commission deputy chairman M S Ahluwalia for past few days over the issue of modernisation work at IGI, aviation minister Praful Patel on Monday spoke for the first time on issues troubling passengers and the challenges in removing them.
"I am not defending Delhi international Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) or the inconvenience faced by passengers. We are aware of the problems at the international terminal and are not happy with the inconvenience which can't be blamed on any one agency," he told TOI.
Patel said had DIAL readied the Haj terminal so that some flights could have been shifted there when the international terminal was being renovated, the situation there could have been better.
