Auckland: State-controlled Air New Zealand is looking to the emerging markets of China and India to fuel future growth.Deputy CEO Norm Thompson said the airline will look particularly closely at the two nations as it seeks to expand its international route network and passengers.
He described Guangzhou as "an interesting prospect" and India as a possibility.
"You've got to look at places like India over the next five years, with all the developments going on," he told Travel Today, an online newsletter. "But you want to try and fly non-stop and then comes the challenge of picking an aircraft to fly non-stop - it would be a long stretch."
The airline has also identified Queenstown, a holiday resort in New Zealand's South Island popular with skiers and thrill-seekers, as a key destination in it efforts to attract more Australian travellers.
Air New Zealand has already boosted services into Queenstown. Having once just flown one flight a week from Sydney, it now provides five weekly flights from Sydney, and two from each of Brisbane and Melbourne.
