The unprecedented increase of nearly 4900% in non-aeronautical service charges have threatened domestic civil aviation industry in the last 6 months and therefore industry body like the Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) has advocated the need for setting up of `Aviation Economic Regulator'.
Addressing the Press Conference here on Friday, the ASSOCHAM Civil Aviation Committee Chairman, Jagdish Gupta along with its Co-Chairman, H S Khola said that no where in the world space allocations charges within the airport premises have gone up that steeply.
The charges for 300sq. meter, according to the ASSOCHAM Civil Aviation Committee were Rs3000 only six months ago, which today hovered around Rs150,000.
Seeking a review of handling charges like hanger space, parking charges, ticketing counter space and backup office space, airport development fees, Gupta, Khola have urged the government to set up an Aviation Economic Regulator so that strict monitoring is done to ensure that space allocations within airport premises is allocated in a fair manner.
The airport's management in India have moved on to monopolistic situation which worldwide is resisted as the liberalization has already existence its transition.
