Airlines withdraw short-haul flights as input costs go up

New Delhi: Implementing airlines' warning of hiking fares and reducing flights, Vijay Mallya-owned Kingfisher-Deccan combine has reduced both metro and regional flights.
Kingfisher has withdrawn 17 metro flights, with the south facing most of the cancellations because of new Hyderabad and Bangalore airports being far from the city and passengers not preferring to travel that much for short distance connections. Deccan has withdrawn 20 flights with some being metro and other shorthaul flights.
Kingfisher has pruned service flights from Bangalore to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Hyderabad to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The frequency on Mumbai-Ahmedabad route has also been pruned.
South India is facing the maximum exodus of flights, as SpiceJet and JetLite have already started withdrawing flights. Deccan has withdrawn on routes in northeast like Dimapur-Imphal and other regions like Kolkata-Jammu and Delhi to Amritsar and Gwalior. It has also withdrawn low cost flights on metro routes like Mumbai to Kolkata and Hyderabad.
