New Delhi: Harried airline passengers often left at the mercy of operators can now look forward to getting proper hearing on their complaints and also hope for some action on them.
The Government has asked the carriers to appoint Ombudsman by August 1.
"The airliners have been asked to appoint Ombudsman so that complaints and representations from users and passengers are handled by credible independent agencies," Civil Aviation Secretary Ashok Chawla told reporters after his meeting with airline operators here.
Although there have been demands from various groups for the appointment of Ombudsman -- a person who investigates complaints and mediates fair settlements between a consumer and organisation, this is for the first time that government has taken a proactive step in this matter.
Chawla also said by August 1 the Performance Navigation System would be put in place at Mumbai and Delhi Airport, which witness large-scale air traffic control delays.
