New Delhi: India Association of Tour Operators (IATO) organised its round table meet with Ministry of Tourism (MoT) officials last week at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi to discuss issues that are real deterrent for the sustainable growth of tourism. It also launched the new logo of the Association, which symbolises its pan India presence at the event. The logo, was unveiled by S. Banerjee, Secretary (Tourism) and Vijay Thakur, President, IATO. The meet was also attended by Arjun Sharma, Sr. Vice President, IATO, Leena Nandan, Joint Secretary (Tourism) and Sanjay Kothari, Additional Director General (Tourism). The round table meet was divided into core areas, including Archaeology Survey of India, accommodation, taxation, transportation (aviation, railways and surface), HRD and various other aspects including high taxation, which is dampening Indian business.
“We often talk about the issues but have never been able to sit together with concerned agencies to form comprehensive strategy and look for solutions,” said Vijay Thakur, President, IATO.
Focusing on each segment through audio visual presentations, recommendations were made to the MoT about the expectations of the travel industry from them in solving the deterrent areas.
