Jet Air Adds Mumbai-Shanghai Flight on Business Travel Demand

Jet Airways (India) Ltd starts a daily Mumbai-Shanghai service today, its first Chinese route, to meet rising corporate demand for travel between the world's two most-populous countries.
The maiden flight is schedule to depart Mumbai at 11:15 a.m. today, according to the carrier's Web site. After stopping in Shanghai, the Boeing Co. 777-300 aircraft will continue on to San Francisco, Jet Air's fourth North American destination.
The Mumbai-based airline is mounting flights to China as Satyam Computer Services Ltd. and other Indian companies expand business there. Connecting to San Francisco will also enable Jet Airways to tap into travel by software professionals to California's Silicon Valley.
India and China in March agreed to expand flights between the world's two-fastest growing major economies. That will enable expansion by Air India and China Eastern Airlines Corp., which both now fly between Shanghai and New Delhi, India's capital.
Jet Airways is expanding overseas as discount carriers gain share in its home market. The carrier, owned by billionaire Chairman Naresh Goyal, this year began flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok and the Middle East.
