Jet Airways plane aborts landing

Mumbai: A Mumbai-bound Jet Airways flight from Delhi with over 100 passengers on board aborted landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Friday after desceding to a height of 700 feet because another aircraft had not cleared the runway.
Confirming the incident, a Jet Airways official told Newsline that it in no way risked the safety of passengers as such incidents happen and even aborting landing procedures at “a 50-foot distance from the runway” is considered all right if there is any disturbance on the runway.
“One aircraft had landed on the runway while another was preparing to take off. Only when that aircraft cleared the runway, would another aircraft be allowed to approach the runway,” said the official. The official explained that the aircraft that landed did not use the the taxiway ‘Whiskey’ but exited the runway using taxiway ‘Charlie’, which is further away on the runway. Because of this delay, the Jet Airways flight (9W-312) was asked to overfly the runway and resort to the usual ‘go-arounds’. The incident occurred at 10:50 pm on Friday.
