Kolkata: Technical snags in two aircraft in Bagdogra and Mumbai delayed the Air India flights to and from Kolkata, affecting 350 fliers on Saturday. On Saturday morning, the pilot of the Mumbai-Kolkata flight noticed a problem in the hydraulic pressure system and the flight was delayed by three hours. As the 100-odd passengers waited at the Mumbai terminal, 107 more passengers got stranded at the Kolkata airport as the same craft was supposed to take them to Guwahati.
"The aircraft from Mumbai was supposed to fly to Guwahati as well. We couldn't replace it because of a shortage of aircraft," said an airline source. As a result, the Kolkata-Guwahati flight was delayed by more than three hours.
In case of a snag, the airline usually tries to replace the aircraft. But there was a shortage on Saturday. An aircraft, which was supposed to fly in from Chennai, had been grounded at Port Blair since Thursday, the source said.
To add to the trouble, the Bagdogra-Kolkata flight got stranded at Bagdogra with 144 passengers. The pilot noticed a snag in the ground power and auxiliary power units and it took more than an hour to repair it. The flight finally landed at Kolkata airport at 6 pm.
