New Delhi: After losing the lucrative duty free shops at the Delhi and Mumbai airports, the tourism ministry has now evolved a concept of 'Incredible India' outlets that will market handicrafts and products at all airports.
Union tourism minister Ambika Soni has asked her counterpart in the civil aviation ministry, Praful Patel, to provide space for these outlets.
So, if the ministry has its way, travellers will be greeted by the 'Incredible India' logo at every airport. These outlets will house souvenirs and products that are sought after by foreign tourists.
According to sources, the ministry feels that the Airport Authority should bear the cost for these shops. Ministry sources pointed out that several products like Indian tea, silk and handicrafts are much in demand, especially by foreigners, and would give the India Tourism Development Corporation to showcase the best of Indian culture and tradition.
