SpiceJet to reduce 20 flights from July 1

Mumbai: Reeling under the impact of rising international oil prices and falling revenues, private air carrier SpiceJet are reducing the number of flights from July, a top company official said today.
"We are reducing our total number of flights from 117 to 97 from July 1," SpiceJet's CEO Sidhant Sharma told PTI here.
The airline plans to withdraw its Ahmedabad-Jaipur and Hyderabad-Ahmedabad routes while reducing the frequencies of its Bangalore-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Chennai and Bangalore-Chennai routes, Sharma said.
With the Air Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices almost doubling in the last one year, balance-sheets of many air-carriers have come under pressure, forcing them to resort to cost-control measures including rationalising of routes and cutting down on flight frequencies.
"The move would enable us improve our load-factor by three per cent and increase revenues by five per cent," Sharma said.
Currently, the airline's load-factor is around 71 per cent. The air carrier could post losses to the tune of Rs 80-100 crore in the current financial year.
