Kolkata: High crosswinds and rain disrupted flight operations at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Monday evening.
Around eight incoming flights hovered over the airport for 30 to 45 minutes and the outgoing ones got delayed by an hour on an average. However, none of the incoming flights was diverted.
"Bad weather, particularly heavy rainfall and high crosswinds, forced a complete shutdown of flight operations from 7.00 to 8.00 pm on Monday,"said a source at the airport meteorological department.
Jet Airways, Kingfisher and Air India flights from Delhi hovered over the airport for half an hour and the
Jet Airways and Kingfisher flights from Mumbai did so for 45 minutes. A few outgoing flights also got delayed. A couple of Air India and JetLite flights took off 35 minutes behind schedule. The Jet Airways flight to Delhi and the Kingfisher flights to Bhubaneswar were delayed by 25 minutes. In the international sector, the Gulf Airways flight was delayed by half an hour.
