Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur air service soon

Tiruchi: Air Asia, a low-cost carrier, would soon operate direct air services on the Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector.
The airline is planning daily services on the Kuala Lumpur-Tiruchi-Kuala Lumpur sector from mid-August. According to Airport sources, Civil Aviation Ministry has cleared the introduction of the service while clearances were awaited from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Indications are that the service, likely to be in the morning, would be launched by August 12. The airline may deploy A-320 aircraft for the service.
Second carrier
Air Asia would be the second international low-cost carrier introducing services from Tiruchi to destinations abroad after the Air India Express (Colombo-Tiruchi-Colombo service of another low-cost carrier, Mihin Lanka, remains suspended). Sources indicated that Air Asia could be interested in connecting more destinations from Tiruchi, including Bangkok and Singapore in future.
Meanwhile, Air India which had increased its frequency to make it a daily service on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram-Sharjah sector, is seeking to operate the service all through the week in the return direction too.
However, shortage of manpower in the Central Industrial Security Force, in charge of the airport’s security here, has been hampering the move.
