Air India told to settle retd staffer's dues

Ahmedabad: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has directed the chairman of National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL), the erstwhile Air India Limited, to settle the post retirement dues of its retired employee at the earliest.
Krishna Behari of New VIP Ring Road in Vadodara was an employee of Air India Ltd. Now retired, but still awaiting his dues, Behari filed an application under the Right to Information (RTI) Act with the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of the Air India Ltd.
In his RTI application, Behari sought information pertaining to the non-settlement of his retirement benefits. As the CPIO provided partial information, Behari lodged his appeal before Air India's appellate authority.
Finally, not satisfied with the responses from the CPIO and the appellate authority, Behari lodged his appeal before the CIC seeking that complete information be provided as the CPIO had failed to do so. CIC directed the chairman of NACIL to ensure that Behari's dues were settled at the earliest. It also directed the chairman to strengthen the public authority's redressal system to ensure that employees don't have to take such extreme steps for getting retirement benefits. NACIL will have to submit a compliance report of these directions to the CIC within three months.
