CIAL to have 50 more SIs

Nedumbassery:The Emigration wing of the Kochi International Airport, which is facing severe staff shortage, can heave a sigh of relief as the Home Department allotted 50 more Sub-Inspectors as counter officers at the airport. The staff shortage in the Emigration wing caused difficulties to passengers and airlines.
The Kochi airport came under severe criticism as the passengers had to wait for hours for the emigration clearance.
An average of 2 lakh passengers pass through Emigration counters at the airport every month. Though the Emigration personnel take only one minute to clear a passenger against the Intelligence Bureau (IB) norms of allowing two minutes for the clearance, a passenger has to wait more than one hour to get the travel documents cleared. The number of Emigration personnel is fixed by the Bureau of Emigration under IB and their salary and other benefits are paid by the Union Government. The Bureau makes arrangements with the state police to allot staff at airport in case of shortage of IB personnel.
