Co-pilot granted bail in airhostess suicide case

A sessions court on Monday granted bail to Indigo Airlines co-pilot Arjun Menon, who
has been accused of abetting the suicide of airhostess Sucheta Anand at a Juhu hotel on June 8. The court said the prosecution has no material to prove that Menon had any intention to abet Anand’s suicide.
Menon had applied to the court saying that he has to appear for an examination (Radio Aid and Instruments and Air Navigation) on July 30 in Andheri. The bail order states that Menon should move out of Mumbai only a month after his release. However, the court allowed him to remain in the city and appear for his examination.
On June 8, Anand was found hanging from a fan in her hotel room. The Santacruz police arrested Menon after her brother complained alleging that she committed suicide after having an argument with the pilot.
On June 25, sessions judge Vinay Joshi had observed that he is “unable to collect any material from which inference of abetment can be drawn”. The judge had said that what transpired between the couple “will never come on record”.
The judge had also said that “merely suspicion” was raised on Menon on the basis of the company he kept with Anand before her suicide.
