Deccan takes back fuel cess hike

New Delhi: With crude prices sliding and airlines hoping for a reduction in jet fuel cost in August, UB Group chief Vijay Mallya is learnt to have reversed the fuel surcharge hike of his low cost carrier Deccan. Last Monday, Jet-JetLite and Kingfisher-Deccan combines had raised their fuel surcharge from Rs 2,250 to Rs 2,350 and Rs 2,900 to Rs 3,100 for short and medium domestic flights, respectively. Now from July 25, the surcharge of Deccan will be reversed to Rs 2,250 and Rs 2,900.
Last Monday, the two big players — Jet and Kingfisher — had raised the surcharge of their low cost and full service carriers. Apart from AI (domestic), independent LCCs like SpiceJet and IndiGo had not raised their fuel surcharge figure then. A Jet spokesperson said the company is yet to decide on JetLite's surcharge.
